Announcement Regarding Priest Assignment

April 7, 2026

Dear Parishioners of St. Denis and St. Patrick Parishes,

God's blessings to you this Easter season!
Father Michael Thiel has faithfully served your parishes of St. Denis and St. Patrick since 2019. Bishop Ricken is now asking that he begin a new priestly assignment in the Antigo area. Beginning July 1, Father Thiel will serve the parishes of
St. John, Antigo
SS Mary & Hyacinth, Antigo,
St. Wenceslaus, Neva
SS James & Stanislaus, White Lake
I know that you will find ways to appropriately thank Father Thiel for his priestly ministry with you before he moves at the end of June.

It is Bishop Ricken's intention to appoint a new international priest to replace Father Thiel. The announcement of the international priest is not made until he arrives in the United States. The goal is for him to arrive early July and be able to begin serving your parishes in September after some time of acclimating to the Diocese of Green Bay.

Please know of my prayers for your parishes during this time of transition.
May the Holy Spirit bless and guide you and your families with His very best,

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Tom Long

Chair, Priest Personnel Board

______

My dear parishioners-

While moving is not something I sought out myself, this assignment is clearly coming from Bishop Ricken’s discernment. It has been my experience that when Jesus and his church ask anything of me, or of any of us, that when I individual individually, and all of us together say ‘yes’, it always works out for our good. I am happy to be obedient to Jesus into his church, and I will miss you very much. It has been my pleasure and privileged to serve here at St. Denis & St. Patrick. I intend to enjoy the next few months together.

It has certainly always been my desire to have parishioners more attached to Jesus in the Eucharist than to the personality of anyone priest So now, even though that I go, Jesus in the Eucharist remains. He is the reason that we come to Mass: to be ever more devoted to Jesus in the Eucharist.

– Fr. Michael Thiel
